Jessie Barstow is a perfectly ordinary girl — until the afternoon she ducks into a dusty magic shop to escape the things hunting her. Things that wear hoods and human faces, with eyes that glow like jack-o'-lanterns and far too many teeth.
When she vanishes from one world and reappears in another, Jessie discovers she's a Traveler, able to slip between worlds with a thought. But her gift is exactly what a power-hungry sorceress named Demora has been searching for — and she'll drain every world dry to claim it.
With the help of Martin, a down-on-his-luck magician who's about to remember that real magic exists, Jessie races across strange and wondrous worlds toward the Source of All Magic itself — where she'll decide the fate of every world, including her own.
